Unfortunately, our very limited funds only provide enough funding for one engineer and we must fit all NeoOffice software development, bug fixing, and support tasks into our available time. Because the development and bug fixing tasks use up a significant portion of our available time, we can only answer problems posted by our most generous users.
Viewing our site is free so if you have any problems, a list of suggested steps for finding an answer for a problem as fast as possible is available on the
NeoOffice Support
page.

FYI. I have included the fixes for both bugs in NeoOffice 3.3 Beta Patch 1. You can download the patch from the
NeoOffice 3.3 Beta patch download page
.

Patch 0 Test 6 fixes both the Character menu bug and the missing menus bug for me.
Thanks.

I think that I have fixed the disabled Format :: Character menu bug that gbh reported as well as the blank menu bug that amayze found.
Can you install the test patch and tell us if both bugs are fixed for you?:

I found the cause of what I was seeing. It was due to some codes changes after the last test patch to prepare for fixing the
blurry text on Retina displays
.
I will need to fix this before I post the next test patch.

But also a different problem.
Open Test.odt file
Double click on the spreadsheet to enter it.
Cmd-Tab to a different application
Cmd-Tab back to NeoOffice
The menu only contains Apple and NeoOffice, other menus have gone and don't come back until you click outside the spreadsheet again.
The same problem occurs if you use Cmd-~ to switch between open windows.
Another way to trigger this problem is to use any command that shows a window, e.g. Format: Cells, while the sheet is selected. When the "Format Cells" window is closed, the embedded spreadsheet remains active, but only the Apple and NeoOffice menus are present.
(I mention this only because I discovered it while checking to see if I could reproduce the borders bug Patrick mentioned; I suspect there are plenty of ways to reproduce this missing menus bug by triggering some sort of focus change…)
The interesting thing is that the commands still work, e.g. Cmd-1 still triggers Format: Cells, so if the command you want next has a keyboard equivalent and you can remember it, that's a "work-around" until Patrick has fixed the bug

Although I do not have a fix for the native menu bugs that gbh and amayze found, I might have found a new bug. When you select the Format :: Cells menu. In the dialog that appears, click on the Borders tab and the lines in the list of line widths in the middle of the dialog are blank like in the attached screen snapshot.
Is any else seeing this? If so, please post and I will split this new bug into a new forum topic.

It appears that there are a lot of issues in our de-Javafied 3.3 Beta code when using embedded spreadsheets. I have to stay away from using a keyboard for at least the next several days but keep posting any issues that you find with gbh's test document when you find then in this forum topic and I will work through them bit by bit as my limited keyboard usage time allows.

I've been trying to check this and found the following:
Open the Test.odt file
Double click on the spreadsheet to enter it.
Double click on a cell to edit it (insertion point flashes in cell)
Click Format in men bar, Character… menu is greyed out.
If however you open a new spreadsheet
Type some text in a cell and press enter
Double click on the cell
Click Format in menu bar, Character… menu is available.
(edit: seems fran had the same idea as me!)

I can reproduce this. Here are some detailed steps for Ed or Patrick:
- open document
- double click on embedded spreadsheet
- select a cell with text in it
- in the input box at the top highlight some of the text
- the menu item Format :: Character is greyed out
By contrast in a spreadsheet the Format :: Character menu item is selectable
I am using test patch 5 found at
this Trinity post

Post subject: Cannot use Character Function in Embedded Document
If I have an embedded calc document (see attached) and try to highlight any item or letter or number and then go to menu bar under Format I cannot use the Character function (it is grayed out). By contrast, this is not the case when I have items in a regular Calc spreadsheet and can use the Character menu item.
