|
|
Hi
Sorry, been away/out of the loop - is the 1.2 beta patch #0 a patch for the beta release, or a patch for the alpha release to make it beta (no pun intended)? As there's no date with the patch, I can't tell which came out first...

It is a patch that turns Alpha into Beta. As for date, it is meaningless as all of the Beta binaries were uploaded at the same time.

Thanks - I couldn't work that out from the patch page, as it reads
The latest NeoOffice 1.2 Beta patch is available from the following locations:
on the one hand, but is a patch #0 on the other; this is what made me ask. Might be worth changing this text until/unless a patch for the beta comes along, e.g.
The latest NeoOffice 1.2 patch (which will update any version of 1.2 alpha to 1.2 beta) is available from the following locations:

I will only change it if you can make the text generic for all Beta and Neo 1.2 final patches. Why? Because there are 9 different languages on the website and every change returns time to splice in the new English text into several language documents that I cannot read and time to interact with the translators to translate this.

Okay then - I had no idea how much work was involved, at a busy time when a new release comes out. So a few unnecessary downloads is no big deal, and there probably aren't that many people who, like me, would head for the planamesa patch page without being somewhere else first that explains more clearly what patch #0 is for (like the email announcement I just got!)

As I'm of the type 'Install First - Ask Questions Later' I did install Beta Patch 0 over 1.1 Beta and have now "NeoOffice 1.2 Beta Patch 0" announced in the "About"-window - doesn't appear to have done any harm.
Thanks a lot to the developers & community for this great application – I'm relying on it for all the heavy university stuff. |

Does that stuff involve a beer stein, perhaps?

I never saw such a thing in real usage, but my grandpa had one for decoration (just like, obviously, the rest of the world). |

So, I am assuming Beta Patch 1 is a "real" patch, not an upgrade to turn 1.2 Alpha into 1.2 Beta? I haven't found any information about it in the forums.
Also, why was I asked to register again when I upgraded to NeoOffice 1.2 Beta? I am assuming that if I was previously registered for 1.1, I am registered for 1.2 and will still receive email notices about patches and updates, no? |

For two reasons:
1. A large percentage of NeoOffice users download NeoOffice via finding a link on one of the many Mac websites. Because of this, they have no idea that this forum and other support resources exist. The registration box is our last chance effort to make the user aware that there is stuff out there.
2. NeoOffice requires lots of time to develop and maintain. This means that I need a constant stream of donations to earn a living while I work on NeoOffice. The registration box is essentially light nagware that reminds people that NeoOffice is supported by donations.

Yeah, and I've been meaning to make a donation.
But I was out of work due to an injury.
Next paycheck. |

FYI. I have released NeoOffice 1.2 Beta Patch-2 today. "Patch-2" includes
the following bug fixes:
- Improved the speed for finding a font when the current font cannot display text. This "font fallback" process occurs very frequently when displaying text in non-Western European languages such as Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, etc.
- Fixed full-width justification of Arabic text when NeoOffice uses the
"font fallback" mechanism to render Arabic text.
- Fixed the detection of Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese locales on Mac OS X 10.4.

| Me, neither. I just saw it on the patch page this morning, which was why I asked about it. |

Bug 1254 was filed while I was preparing the e-mail for "Patch-1" this morning. Since bug 1254 caused hanging, I fixed bug 1254 and pushed "Patch-2" out.
