PostPosted: Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:57 pm    Post subject: How do I change the size of the bullet character in a list

I have a couple of bullet lists, and these are typically prefixed with a Times New Roman 12 size character.

Which was fine when I was using Times New Roman. Then I wanted to change the layout and suddenly the bullet text has higher line height than the rest of my text..

How do I change that? Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks and best wishes,
Oscar

It sounds like the bullet font size is larger than the font size of the text but I am having trouble figuring out a way to reproduce what you are describing. Can you attach a sample document with a short list that has some of the layout changes that I can see if my assumption is the cause of the problem you are seeing?

Sorry for the long delay.

I found how to change the numbering font size and font family: it is one of the character styles.

However, I also have found a new bug, which involves glyph spacing in PDF export. I am attaching two sample documents. You can see that in the PDF it looks like there are three spaces added in places where they should not be.

Best wishes,
Oscar

Unfortunately, since your document is using a third party font, I cannot reproduce this without a link to a free download of the Garamond Premium Pro font that you have installed on your machine.

That font is definitely not bundled with any version of Mac OS X nor in Microsoft Office so I am not sure where to obtain your special font.

hey Patrick,

I think this font is included in Adobe CS4. And I seem to recall the Myriad Pro showed a similar problem somewhere..

Best wishes,
Oscar

That is bad news. We don't have Adobe CS4 and I am sure that any Adobe fonts are copyrighted.

Do you see the same problem in PDFs created in Adobe CS4? From what I can see, it seems that there is a "Th" ligature in that font and NeoOffice is getting incorrect glyph width metrics from the Mac OS X text layout functions.

Although I have no way to reproduce this, there is one thing that you can do that will tell us if this is a new problem or not. Can you download and reinstall NeoOffice 3.1.1 and don't install any patches.

Does the problem go away? If so, then my best guess would be that what you are seeing is caused by my "negative glyph widths" fix for bug 3621 that I released in Patch 2 and I can take a guess at some possible ways to fix this without needing Adobe CS4.

Please ignore my last post as yoxi has provided some sample files that I have been able to use.

Using yoxi's sample files I have found a possible fix for this problem and I have posted a test patch in this forum post.

Can you install the test patch and tell us if you see any change when exporting to PDF with the Garamond Premier Pro font?

I think I have finally found the cause of this bug and there a fix in the test patch in this forum topic. yoxi has confirmed that that test patch fixes the Garamond Premier Pro font kerning problems in exported PDF. Does the test patch fix the bug for you as well?

FYI. The fix for this bug has been included in NeoOffice 3.1.2 which can download it from the NeoOffice download page.
