I realize decisions on the operation of features are made based on certain criteria. Here are my questions:

Is there a way to have Calc open with the active/highlighted cell always in the upper left corner, that is it always returns to the same field regardless of which cell was highlighted when the app was closed, as it is now?

When a new window is opened and there are other windows opened, the new window seems to adopt the placement and/or sizing of the windows already open as opposed to the way the app window was left when closed the last time.

These are both judgment calls and I am sure there is/was a good reason for setting them up the way they display or are handled currently.

If there is a way to change the defaults on either of these items, I have not found it.

Thanks for any clarification or responses.

Unfortunately, the feature you are looking for does not exist in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code. What you are seeing is that when you save a Calc document, the selected sheet and the selected cell in each sheet in your document is physically saved in the document. So, the only way to have the selected cell be the first cell in the first sheet when you open your Calc document, you need to select that cell before you save your document.

Like the selected cell behavior, this behavior is also set by NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code. When you quit NeoOffice, the OpenOffice.org code saves the bounds of the open windows in your user preference files. Unfortunately, the OpenOffice.org code only supports saving the bounds by type of document (Writer, Calc, Impress) and it does not save bounds for each document that you had open.

I forgot to add that while there is no option to automatically set the selected cell, there is a possible workaround: you can record a macro and then assign that macro to Calc's "Open Document" event. It is a very hacky workaround in that it will run on any Calc documents that you open and it will only work on your machine and not for other people that may open your document.

There are quite a few steps needed to enable this workaround so if you are interested in this workaround, let us know and I will write up the steps to enable it.
