Is there anything new in this version that wasn't in the last Oracle OpenOffice.org release?

I installed on Mac OS X 10.7 and, like with the latest LibreOffice, there is still no versions or full screen support.

Yes, some. You can find those from the middle of the release notes page at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+Release+Notes

Of course, these pale in comparison to the extra features in NeoOffice Wink.

I am just happy for them that they got a release out despite all the scepticism and the fracturing of the OOo codebase..

What is interesting is that rumor has it that IBM has paid development staff working on OpenOffice.org.

If that rumor is true, that is good news for OpenOffice.org as my opinion has always been that large scale open source software projects just don't get anywhere without paid, experienced development staff so it is encouraging to hear that a company like IBM is putting real money behind OpenOffice.org.

If Novell and RedHat weren't funding a paid development staff I doubt Ed and I would consider using their code, so if IBM has paid staff from the former Symphony or Oracle engineers, then that would give me a lot more confidence in their work when it comes time to upgrade NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code after we finish getting NeoOffice ready for Mac OS X 10.8.

Well, there is this quote from the release announcement, which I also found interesting:

Quote:
"IBM is pleased to contribute to the Apache OpenOffice project licensed under the Apache License v2. This project represents a unique opportunity to innovate and create office productivity documents that meet the needs of social businesses. We look forward to completing the source code contribution of Symphony to Apache OpenOffice in the near future."
