PostPosted: Tue May 07, 2013 7:50 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta available

Over the last 8 months, we have been working on making a version of NeoOffice - called NeoOffice Secure Edition - that we hope to eventually distribute via Apple's Mac App Store. We believe that we have finished implementing all of the changes needed to comply with Apple's Mac App Store security and other requirements. Before we submit it to Apple's Mac App Store reviewers, we wanted to provide a test version so we have released NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta.

To download NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta, use the download link in this NeoWiki article. That NeoWiki article also contains a list of the changes that we to make NeoOffice Secure Edition comply with Apple's Mac App Store security and other requirements. Since NeoOffice and NeoOffice Secure Edition use separate installation and user preferences folders, you do not need to uninstall NeoOffice to use NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta.

If anyone finds any crashing or hanging bugs, please post them. Also, if you are unsure whether or not you have found a bug, post what you found and Ed or I will evaluate it. If what you found is a real bug, we will move your post to its own separate NeoOffice Testing forum topic so that it won't get buried in this forum topic.

FYI. For those of you testing NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta, the following test patch is available:

Intel:
http://juliette.neooffice.org/test/NeoOfficeSecureEdition-2013_Beta-Test-3-Intel.dmg

This test patch fixes the unexpected display of open dialogs when opening or saving documents. The test patch also includes an updated splash screen that displays "NeoOffice Secure Edition" instead of only "NeoOffice".

We have released NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 2. To download NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 2, use the download link in this NeoWiki article.

NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 2 is the same as NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta plus the following bug fixes:
  • Added all NeoOffice 3.3 bug fixes implemented after NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 6 was released
  • Eliminated several cases where open dialogs would be unexpectedly displayed when opening or saving documents
  • Updated splash screen to display "NeoOffice Secure Edition" instead of only "NeoOffice"
  • Codesigned unsigned helper executables within the application bundle that were found to be unsigned during a test submission to Apple's Mac App Store
  • Removed the Media Browser since applications that use Apple's App Sandbox are not allowed to access other applications' user preference files. and without such access, most audio and picture files were no longer accessible in the Media Browser

We have released NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 3. To download NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 3, use the download link in this NeoWiki article.

NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 3 is the same as NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 2 plus the following bug fixes:
  • Added all NeoOffice 3.3 bug fixes implemented after NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 7 was released
  • Prevent crashing in native open and save dialog code by ensuring that all previously displayed native dialogs are released before a new one is displayed
  • Fixed a crash at launch when running on the current Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks preview release
  • Fixed bug that caused saving to the topmost folder on a remote volume to fail
  • Updated the support URL in the help pages
  • Removed the NeoOffice Mobile feature since NeoOffice Mobile's need for payment via Paypal may not comply with Apple's Mac App Store rules

Recently we submitted a build using our NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 3 code to Apple's Mac App Store. Apple's reviewers noted some issues that they require us to fix before we resubmit so we have fixed their issues and released those fixes in NeoOffice 2013 Beta. To download NeoOffice 2013 Beta, use the download link in this NeoWiki article.

Please note that we have dropped "Secure Edition" from the product name and now we are using only "NeoOffice" as the name that we will use when we resubmit to the Mac App Store. We realized that "NeoOffice Secure Edition" would be in the middle of the list of our existing "NeoOffice Mobile" and "NeoOffice TimeCard" apps so by using "NeoOffice" will keep our core product at the top of the list of our apps when searching in the Mac App Store.

Other than the product name change, NeoOffice 2013 Beta is the same as NeoOffice Secure Edition 2013 Beta 3 plus the following bug fixes:
  • Eliminate several "deny file-read-data" and "deny file-write" messages in the Console application's logs
  • Fixed crash when connecting to the Mac OS X address book after the user has declined to give NeoOffice access
  • Removed the File :: Exit menu

Note: if you have any of the NeoOffice Secure Edition Beta releases installed, the NeoOffice 2013 Beta installer will upgrade your existing NeoOffice Secure Edition Beta installation and then move it to /Applications/NeoOffice.app folder.

Also note that if you have NeoOffice 3.3 or earlier installed in the /Applications/NeoOffice.app folder, your existing installation will not be overwritten. Instead, the installer will install NeoOffice 2013 Beta in the /Applications/NeoOffice.localized/NeoOffice.app folder.

After posting many test patches for NeoOffice 2013 Beta, we think we are nearly ready to resubmit our code to Apple's Mac App Store reviewers. To ensure that we have not missed any obvious crashing or hanging bugs, we have released NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2. To download NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2, use the download link in this NeoWiki article.

Please note that the NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 installer should find and update your existing NeoOffice 2013 Beta installation. If you don't have NeoOffice 2013 Beta already installed, it will install in /Applications/NeoOffice.app and overwrite any regular NeoOffice installation there if you have not renamed it. So, if you have NeoOffice 3.3 installed, we recommend that you rename it before installing NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2.

NeoOffice Secure Edition testers: NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 is incompatible with NeoOffice Secure Edition so if you have one of the NeoOffice Secure Edition versions installed, we recommend that you delete your NeoOffice Secure Edition user preference files by executing the following command in a Terminal window before installing NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2:

Quote:
rm -Rf ~/Library/Containers/org.neooffice.NeoOfficeSecureEdition/Data/Library/Preferences/NeoOfficeSecureEdition

Edit by pluby: added special steps for NeoOffice Secure Edition testers.

Other than the installer change, NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 is the same as NeoOffice 2013 Beta plus all of the changes in the test patches posted after NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 7 was released.

Correction: NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 appears to be incompatible with NeoOffice Secure Edition so if you have one of the NeoOffice Secure Edition versions installed, please read the steps that I have added to my previous post for deleting your NeoOffice Secure Edition user preference before you install NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2.

Shortly after we released NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2, we found the 2 bugs listed below and we have fixed these bugs in NeoOffice 2013 Beta 3. To download NeoOffice 2013 Beta 3, use the download link in this NeoWiki article:

- After quitting and relaunching, NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 would display a native Open dialog when a document in the File :: Recent Documents menu was selected.

- If NeoOffice 3.3 was already installed as NeoOffice in the Applications folder, the NeoOffice 2013 Beta 2 installer would overwrite NeoOffice 3.3 installation even if there was already a NeoOffice 2013 installation elsewhere in the Applications folder so in NeoOffice 2013 Beta 3, we switched the installer behavior back to the following:
  • If you have NeoOffice 3.3 or earlier installed as NeoOffice in the Applicadtions folder, your existing installation will not be overwritten. Instead, the installer will install NeoOffice 2013 Beta in a new NeoOffice folder in the Applications folder.
  • If you have any of NeoOffice 2013 or NeoOffice Secure Edition releases installed, the NeoOffice 2013 Beta installer will upgrade your existing NeoOffice 2013 or NeoOffice Secure Edition installation wherever it is already installed

NeoOffice 2013 is now in the Mac App Store. Release notes and a download link are on our main website's new NeoOffice 2013 page.

If you already installed NeoOffice 2013 Beta 3, you have the same code as the Mac App Store version so when we fix any bugs, we will post test patches and/or new test versions at that time.
