A user found a bug that causes NeoOffice to hang for a minute or longer when updating links in spreadsheets on OS X Yosemite and El Capitan. This bug would occur when opening spreadsheets that contain formulas that reference a different spreadsheet file. When opening such spreadsheets, pressing the "Yes" button in the "Update all links?" dialog that appears would cause NeoOffice to hang for several minutes.
Surprisingly, this bug was caused by excessive CPU usage in the spinning OS X progress indicator that NeoOffice displays during long running tasks. Fortunately, I was able to modify the NeoOffice code to display the spinning OS X progress indicator without triggering this OS X bug.
You do not have to wait until the next NeoOffice release to get this bug fix. You can get the bug fix now by downloading and installing one of the following test patches:
