I finally got this to work.

1. Upgraded to Mac OS 10.3.7
2. Installed MySQL 4.1.9 (MySQL version)
3. Installed MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51 (from MySQL)
4. Used the ODBC Administrator utility to set up my data source
5. Set up my MySQL data source in NeoOffice/J.

Voilá!

Unfortunately, I then found enough problems in the way OpenOffice.org handled SQL that I decided to pursue another approach. Sad

Maybe you should try OOo 1.1.3 for panther and a real SQL backend like PostgreSQL? The package from entropy.ch is the best way to install on Mac OS.

In Neo/J there is a bug with data filtering but I haven't explored far enough beyond that to find ohters.

A fairly simple join involving three tables confused the OpenOffice query editor. After which I decided that This Was Not The Way. I don't seem to have a filed copy of that bit of SQL, or I'd file a bug report.

Graphical or text SQL query editor?

I have some issues with the way OOo handles boolean but hand written queries just work. First of all I set up the joins with the graphical editor then I switch to text editor and save. You can't go back to graphical once you have modified the code in the text editor. But queries done that way take a few seconds to set up.

Cheers

Could be I'm saying an oblivious thing: have you created the mysql tables using neooffice? I read that is not a good thing to create mysql tables using neooffice; I don't know if this could be related to a successive query anyway.
