Just downloaded NeoOffice/J and launched it, it's fantastic! I love it! Great job! I immediateley dropped OOo into the trash bin and yes, I emptied the trash.

I also downloaded the source before I realized that compiling it requires the same minimums as OOo Embarassed. Unfortunately, I don't have the disk space and I also dropped X11 in the trash along with OOo.

But, as recommended somewhere on this site, I ordered an 80GB disk and I quit my job, so I'm ready to give this thing a try. I have a Java background and new to OS X development, so this should be fun.

I once had a look at the commercial office product for OS X and I have to say it, it looked damn nice! When I saw OOo on the Mac I almost gave up hope. But that was the way to the dark side. I am all for NeoOffice now rather than waiting till 2005 or whatever.

Unfortunately, there is no getting around OOo's huge build environment. The good news is that NeoJ uses a "patch and rebuild" method, the amount of NeoJ source code is fairly small. In fact, I only rebuild OOo about once every 3 months. I usually only need to recompile the NeoJ files.

BTW, be sure to use the latest code from the NeoOffice CVS repository so that you can get all the latest changes (e.g. high resolution printing, line drawing enhancements, etc.). I have been committing a lot of bug fixes in the last few weeks.
