I have received some reports that when both Norton Antivirus and Neo/J 1.1 RC plus Patch-3 are running, Norton Antivirus will detect the Underground trojan.

Has anyone had this same problem? If so, did it start only after installing "Patch-3" or did it start after installing or updating Norton Antivirus?

I checked my build machine and it doesn't appear to be infected with the Underground trojan, so it may be that Norton Antivirus is giving a false positive. In any case, if you are getting such Norton warnings, please post here so that I can figure out what is going on.

I had a friend ask for help with this, so here's what I have found so far:
It's actually called Underhand, the lowlife who make it have a page for it.

It's not a new trojan - there are reports of it here and here

Users have reported an association with Neo patch 3 here but it looks incidental

MacFixIt is reporting that this is a false positive in Norton Antivirus and that an update to their virus defs has been released to solve the problem.

"hacktool.underhand" Trojan apparently a false positive from Norton Anti-Virus

Several MacFixIt readers have reported receiving an alert from Norton Anti-Virus of a trojan called "hacktool.underhand."

MacFixIt reader Chris Rosa, for instance, writes:

"One of my users reported that NAV alerted her to a trojan called hacktool.underhand that had infected a swapfile. Curiously enough, Norton Anti-Virus

It now appears that this alert is a false positive, and poses no real threat to Mac OS X system integrity.

Symantec has released an updated virus definition set -- available through LiveUpdate -- to address the false positive.
