several colleagues use openoffice 2, but i have noticed that i cannot read its format with neooffice. is there a way around this?

OpenOffice.org 2 uses a slightly modified version of the file format used on OOo 1. While this will be backported in to OOo 1.1.5, that vesion will not be out after the final 2.0 release is out (current version are beta previews).

You need to ask them to either save in the OpenOffice 1.x format (.sxw etc.) or M$ Office formats (.doc etc.). I'd recommend the former.

You will encounter the same problem with OOo users on other platforms where 2.0 is not available, particularly the "BSD" platforms and probably Tru64. An "open" format unfortunately does not magically imply that other apps can read it Sad
