(or would it be Jwriter?)

anyway, I spend all week using NeoOffice/J for a writer game myself and some of my friends play. Basically you have to write seven stories in seven days. And I used Neo. (I started trying Flaming Yeti, but was unable to use it for any length of time).

Two things, one i didn't get the patch installed, and two, i havent caught up on all the archives yet, so sorry if all this is old news.

First off. It worked great. Installed on an iBook/800.

If the book went to sleep with neo/j open, Any click on neo was translated as a right click.

The page rendered smalled than the OOX11 page at 100%.

The underline spell thingy never quite worked.

I opened a document in N/J that i had started in OOX11. The document opened fine in the sense that everything was there. However, despite being nine or so pages, N/J displayed it as one big page. Also, the left to right margins were only dependent on the screen width, not any of the page settings. (Same thing happens in FY build)

Hope that helps some,

-j

The page margins are a bit wonky...in Neo at least, I think this is due to the program not being able to properly query the printer for the appropriate page dimensions. For example, when authoring a doc in OOo Brand X initially it's at the page size of whatever my default is in the psprint settings (A4 since the prog. was coded in europe), but the first time I print a portion it all gets repaginated as to what teh printer advertises. I don't know whether this is barking up the wrong tree...

How did you see the problem manifest in FY? Not that I'm claiming that FY is usable, but rather that ther emay be something common in the VCL port that we missed. I'm thinking that it may be in printer capability queries, but that's just a shot in the dark at best.

Ed,

You must be sending telepathic messages as I was just working on this issue earlier today. In the latest patch, all documents shared the same print settings i.e. when OOo requested the printer to be landscape, all documents saw the printer as landscape.

This approach, as you noticed, was not quite right. Hence, I spent some time poring through the Windows VCL code to figure how OOo keeps track of print settings for each document. Once I figured it out, I spent all day yesterday and today making the necessary changes.

The changes I made also get rid of the annoying text layout changes that NeoJ would sometimes make to your document after you printed it. I don't know if this is the same problem that Apricot described, but if it is, my changes should help.

I have spent the last week fixing a host of other printing bugs that have been found. Most are fixed but I still have a couple more minor bugs to fix before a new patch is warranted. So stay tuned for an new patch in the coming week or so.

Is there going to be any new releases of FY or whatever you call the next release? I know the challenges and have read that the complete program wont be till OO 2.0 on 10.3....Just wondering if any new updates are to be posted?

I think Ed is referring the NeoOffice Aqua "Flaming Yeti" build when he talks of FY. I don't know when Ed and Dan are planning a new Aqua build, but I can speak to the NeoOffice/J builds.

I have been issuing patches, which included bleeding edge printing code, for the NeoOffice/J 0.0.1 release about every two weeks. Once most of the printing code bugs are fixed, I plan to issue a new release of NeoOffice/J.

My hope is that this next release will be some time in the next few weeks.

Ed, (and Patrick)

The page layout worked fine with a new document started in N/J or FY. Both margins and pagination were as they should be.

The issue was an OOX11 doc opened in N/J or FY. The page was only dependent on the size of the window (would alter size if window was changed) and there was only one page. I did look though the page settings, and the document did register as a US letter. Both N/J and FY had the same response when opening an OOX11 doc.

Hope that helps some.

PostPosted: Mon Sep 29, 2003 8:03 am    Post subject: Next release of Neoofice/J

Hi, I have been using NeoOffice/J on my Apple IBook for a couple of weeks now. It has made my life easier because I can now transfer documents easily from it to the PC in my office using Open Office on both machines. The other option was to try and install MS office on both which I did not want to do.

For me it has worked well, since I print on the laserprinter attached to my PC. I can say that extensive endnotes/footnotes are no problem. (Although the automatic spell checker..underliner never worked, not a big deal for something that is otherwise so good).

Unfortunately, I am still using Apple OS 10.1.5 since I am a poor academic. Thus, I haven't been able to use your printing patches. Will the next release of NeoOffice/J be 10.2 only?

Unfortunately, the next release of NeoOffice/J will not support Mac OS X 10.1. This is not due to any technical reasons. Instead, it is because I only have a Mac OS X 10.2 machine.

I make a living doing independent consulting work and I need Java 1.4.1 for that work. So I had to upgrade my Mac a couple of months ago. Hence, I do NeoOffice/J bulids on a 10.2 machine.
