Thanks for the good work you are doing! NeoOfficeJ (v0.8) works well for me.

I have been trying to use two features: (1) Form letters and (2) printing a range of pages from a lengthy document.

1. Let's say a form letter based on "Elegant Letter". I linked to a NeoOffice address spreadsheet but when the address table is opened automatically in the data source view it seems to be not possible to select individual records (I have tried all combinations of shift, control, option etc keys). A way round this is to specify the range in the "selected" field but whatever you do, the records are not actually inserted into the form letter.

2. When printing individual or a range of pages from a lengthy document this works fine two or three times but eventually the following message comes up: "Error: Invalid Page Range. The number is out of range. Resetting back to last known valid entry." When I close down NeoOffice and try again it works for two or three different range settings before the above message comes up again.

The only way to merge a subset of records is to select the Tools -> Data Sources and then create a query that filters out the records that you want. Then link your form letter to the query instead of the table.

This is an annoying Java bug. When you select a page range, the next time that you display the print dialog, Java sets the last page range as the maximum allowed page range. I have not found a way to override this behavior.

I did find a simpler workaround that does not require closing your document. Just select print and click on the the "All" option. Then print the document but cancel it as soon as possible. The next time that you print, the print dialog should allow any page range to be entered.

I've just stumbled on this bug too, but Google very quickly lead me here. Thanks for the tip.

BTW, it appears that just asking for a preview of the whole document, rather than actually starting then interrupting the printing process, is enough to get round the problem.

Cheers.

Thanks. I will check if this is an OpenOffice or NeoOffice bug.

This bug does not exist in NeoOffice 1.2 Alpha or Beta as it was a Java 1.3.1 bug.

Ok. This should then be considered a NeoOffice 1.1 bug that will not get fixed (Apple says they have stopped updating/fixing Java 1.3.1 unless it is a security issue.)
