Maybe it's just me... but the save icon in NeoOffice just plain doesn't give me a hint as to what it actually is or does. OSX has a nice icon of a hard drive that would IMHO be a much better substitute for what's there in the bar right now. (Yes, I know there's a fly-over description, but the correct way to do icons is to make them obvious, and the current icon just plain isn't.)

Sorry, but Apple does not allow use of their icons. Using any of their artwork would be a pretty clear copyright violation.
This is why several volunteer graphic artists came up with the current icon design. Like any artwork, some will like it and some will not. So, instead of forcing everyone to use one set of icons, NeoOffice bundles several alternative icon sets that you can use.
To use one of the alternate icon sets, select the Tools :: Options menu and in the dialog that appears select the NeoOffice :: View item. In that item you can change the icon set and also change the size of the icons if you want.

Actually, IIRC there was a discussion about this very icon on this forum before this particular design was selected, FurryOne. It is actually meant to look like a hard drive, or at least an optical drive. Just goes to show....

It's inspired by the "AnyDrive" icon that appears when you insert USB stick drives or mount disk images. It looks like many drives yet not like any particular drive, which is intentional because it's a graphical representation of the impossible-to-depict notion of a generic mass storage device.
Prey tell, how would you depict "a generic non-volatile memory system?"
Clue: hard drives are not the only fruit.

I thought Apple encouraged consistency in their GUI. ...drats!

Thank you. I selected the "Industrial" one. I'm old enough where a floppy icon instinctively means "save" - even if it looks like a 5.25" floppy.
