With a very quick test with a couple of pages of text it seems to behave as advertised. I don't have any longer documents to try it on here. I'll hunt some out tonight, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.

For comparison, I tested by turning off spellcheck and then copying 20K word chunks of "lorem ipsum" text until I reached around 300K words. The word count updated almost immediately after each chunk was pasted.

Sorry I fell out of this discussion, way back when, without answering your question (it's been a weird couple of months.

I found a couple of bugs in the last test that I have fixed in the following test patch:

1. Opening an Writer document, making no edits, and then trying to quit or close the document would cause the "save or discard" dialog.

2. Undoing edits would not always update the word count.OpenOffice.org bug that

Can anyone install the test patch and confirm that the above two bugs are fixed in Writer?:

I've installed Test 14 and don't see the bugs you listed, but I could not reproduce the bugs using Test 13 either, so I'm afraid I can't draw any conclusions.

Just to say, I've tried the actions mentioned above, and there is no evidence of the bugs you mention.

FYI. I have included the display of the word count in the status bar code in NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 5. The patch can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page.
