I recently found that NeoOffice would freeze during installation of any OpenOffice extensions that use Java AWT classes. This freeze occurs when Oracle's Java loads a Java AWT class from an extension.
I have fixed this bug. Note: you will still need to quit and restart NeoOffice after installing a Java-based OpenOffice extension. On macOS, NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice code does not have the ability to use a Java-based extension without restarting NeoOffice.
You do not need to wait until the next NeoOffice release to get the fix. You can get the fix now by downloading and installing one of the following test patches:
