Is there any plan to include dropcap features in NeoOffice. It is possible to format the first letter of a paragraph as a "drop cap" in MS Office 98, and I would like to know if this feature is planned for NeoOffice.

OOo already has a drop caps feature. In Writer, use Format > Paragraph > Drop Caps.

At this time Neo is focused on porting the VCL layer itself to get equivalent functionality for the OOo source code on Mac OS X as on other platforms, a process which has already taken years. We're not actually doing any application features at this time and probably won't be for the forseeable future.

Ed beat me to the answer.

It's listed in the HELP menu under "Drop Caps". I found the help information a little ... unclear.

Drop Caps
Formats the first letter of a paragraph with a large capital letter, that can span several lines. You can also format the first word of the paragraph with large type.

Ed way works find - Format > Paragraph > Drop Caps.

Thank ...
I looked and looked and couldn't find the feature.
I'm brand new to the app, and like it, but am still a bit confused by how some things are organized. Additionally, it feels quite a lot like a Windows app, which I find annoying -- particularly when one selects features from the menu bar.

Generally, when I'm using the ">" notation, I'm mixing menus and dialog controls. Choose the "Paragraph" item from the "Format" menu. This will bring up a dialog. At the top of the dialog is a list of tabs. One of the tabs is named "Drop Caps". Click the tab to make the drop caps options available. This allows drop caps to be enabled as well as other options (first letter only vs. entire first word, number of lines for drop cap to span, etc.).

We're not changing the overall user interface design of OOo which is identical on all platforms. It was designed with a Windows mindset and looks like that everywhere. Due to engineering difficulties and lack of resources, it will be quite some time before we can tackle that problem.
