Hello people,
Great work with neo office. But I was wondering are there any plans to support right to left languages like Arabic, Farsi and Hebrew?
Thanks. |

NeoOffice/J is based on OpenOffice.org 1.0.3. Unfortunately, RTL text input and layout and Arabic font ligature handling was not supported in OpenOffice.org 1.0.3.
OpenOffice.org 1.1 added RTL (as well as vertical) text input and layout support as well as the Arabic font ligature handling. The problem is that OpenOffice.org 1.1 X11 has not been released on Mac OS X. There are a few development builds floating around, but I don't know how stable they are.
The bad news that upgrading NeoOffice/J to OpenOffice.org 1.1 would take several months of work so I am still deciding whether I can afford (financially) to do the work.

Thanks for the reponce Patrick.
How much would it cost to do this and how well would it work? There is a huge need for this in the Arabic Mac community. I might be able to find a way to help you with this.
If u want to write me details in person my email is " turki at mac4arabs dot com " _________________ Turki M. Al-Ballaa

I second the request: also in the Mac Hebrew world, it would be a great relief, and I know quite a few people who would like to switch to Mac but don't because of the lack of compatibility with Word as soon as you need Arabic, Aramaic, Syriac or Hebrew .
