Does ZapfDingbats work in the TextEdit application? ZapfDingbats is a Mac OS X system font so if it does not work there, then the problem is that these fonts are disabled or corrupted.
no, but it fails differently: when you select it, TextEdit automatically switches to some other font. If you have something written in it in a Word doc (which works fine), and open it in TextEdit, it displays correctly, but you can't edit it--any typing is displayed in a different font.
This is NOT a bug, It is "normal behavior" for specialty fonts in OS X Cocoa apps :0
As I found out on my personal and painfully public, path to OS X Cocoa font enlightenment captured in this thread, NeoJ behaves like an OS X Cocoa application for input and rendering of fonts. So it inherits OS X Cocoa apps' requirement to use the OS X Character Palate or OOo Special Character palate to input Symbols, Dingbats etc. The OOo Special Character palate is available in the Insert menu. The OS X Character Palate can be activated via the System Preference / International. It places a keyboard menu item at the end of the OS X menu bar which allows you to change keyboard layouts and input symbols and dingbats etc via the mouse.
BTW you can fix Symbol and Zapf Dingbats in OOo v1.0.3 X11 by following the tips in this thread on OOoDocs Note: the font fixes for OOo v1.03 x11 do NOT help or harm NeoJ.
