|
Hi! I am using NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 4 on a PB G4. I have a question regarding the ability of OpenOffice.org or NeoOffice to play a song during the whole Impress presentation. I can play sounds during one slide or I can replay the same sounds for each slide, but I would like to play one song during which I display several slides. I can't find the way to do it. Actually I am afraid that it's not possible or yet implemented… A year ago, using MS Powerpoint on a PC and a Mac, I noticed that sounds were handled differently: it looked like for the Mac, the song was cut in little 3 second pieces, one piece for each 3 second-slide (at least that is how I remember it), while on the PC you could import the song and have it start playing with the first slide and continue after with the second, third,… slide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Even though you're using Alpha 4, this is a general question which applies to all versions of NeoOffice, and isn't realted to a bug. I guess someone will eventually move your thread to the "NeoOffice Support" section.
In the meantime, I wish I could help you but I'm not familiar with Impress and don't have access to a Mac with NeoOffice (and the PC from which I post doesn't have OpenOffice.org installed either) ...
The Wiki contains a lot of information, some of which could be useful to you :

Not a problem. I just wanted to point it out so that you (or others) get it right next time.
BTW my build is nearly over, so my Mac should soon recover enough memory & processing power to run NeoOffice. |

Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the Wiki or in NeoOffice Impress help that clarifies whether you can play a song throughout a presentation.
I'm sure someone will have an answer for you (either positive or negative), but everyone seems unavailable right now ... |

At the risk of sounding utterly unprofessional: how about just playing the song on a media player in the background? _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"

Thanks for your answer. It's actually the workaround I've been using (create a project with iMovie because I the case of my presentation I have two songs to play one after the other), but it's not a very good solution because of the problem of synchronization. It's hard to get to start the song and the slideshow with the exact timing you want.

OK, I think we can end this topic because I think I found the way to do it. You have to have only one slide (or in my case two because I have 2 songs I want to play one after the other). On the slide you put the first picture you want to display and then you set it up to disappear after a few seconds. On the same slide you put then the second picture you want to display and then you set it up to appear after the first one has disappeared and then disappear after a few seconds, and so on.
Thanks again for your help,

Thanks for posting back.
This is a nice tip, but I hope there is another way to do this. Looks like you will have to use this workaround for now though ... |
