indeed, though if you just want a word processor, there is abi word. it s light, pretty stable and reads ODT. with the open standard of ODT you could easily do the same with other programs.
though 'easy' and 'writing a spreadsheet program' should probably not be put together.
what the original poster should understand is that unlike MS Office (though integrated too) OO.o is all one program. removing the individual programs won't actually do much in decreasing the size of the suite.

I guess I am the opposite side of the OP. I like NeoOffice because it is all in one ala AppleWorks. Sure it is slow to open, but if you just leave it running it seems to be fine. Working on a spreadsheet and need to also work on a document, no need to open another application just go to the file menu and pick a new doc type. Then use the window menu to switch between the two or more docs you have open in NeoOffice.
So if I didn't have NeoOffice I would go over the the Microsoft forums and ask them to combine their suite into one app to ease my workflow.
