We are running a medium sized network and use both NeoOffice and OpenOffice exclusively.
On one of the Mac machines, there are some problems with the spell checker.
After initially figuring out that it was not correctly spell checking because it didnt have a dictionary to reference, settings were altered and it now works fine for new documents, however the same is not true for existing documents.
If i were to open up a new file and type in an assortment of mispelt words, they would all be marked as being incorrect (red line) and the spell checker would continue and correct accordingly.
However if i were to open up an existing document, no spelling errors (yes, there are some) would be marked and spell check will not correct any items. The settings for language are the same in both scenarios.
This happens because NeoOffice, as OOo, can set different languages in the same document.
If you are seeing all words wave-underlined is probably because for that part of the document the language set is not what you intend to use.
So select your text , go to Format -> Character -> Language e choose the language you need.
For the future, you can assign a style to a language and switch from one language to another choosing diffferent styles.
I have since tried to configure the workstation in question and still haven't come to a complete resolve.
For the time being, for existing documents, going to Format > Character > Language will bring out all the spelling mistakes in the current page.
However if we were to bring up the existing document from scratch we would not see the spelling mistakes. Even when applying it to the "Default" style which the page loads in, spelling mistakes will not be found and corrected until we complete the previous step.
This is a work around for now and i thank you, but any other ideas? Perhaps theres something im not doing?
The documents possibly contain settings for more than one language. You can check that by selecting the entire document and then going to Format>Character. If the language option is empty select the preferred language and save.
