|
Hi,
I am trying to assign a shortcut key to an insertion of a special character. I created a macro that has the specific information for the insertion of the specific character I want but the shortcut key assignment is a bit complicated for me.
I wanted to use alt+A or alt+E etc (besically alt+[letter]) for my special characters but it doesn't let me do that - as if using the alt key is not possible for this action.
Any idea on that ???
Thanks,
Asher |

Hi Asher
Unfortunately, there's no access to the alt key as a modifier from within NeoOffice - see this thread for some discussion on this matter. The only options you have are shift- or command- or command-shift- .

Asher, yo can use the Autotext functionality, see this page in the wiki.
Once the autotext created, you just have to type the letter that you gave as shortcut, let's say "A", and press F3. The special character will be inserted.

I just tried adding a new Category to the Autotext categories list, but when I click on the New button keeping the current path, I just get an alert sound. Maybe there's a permissions issue? I'll raise this as a bug.

*edit* It's possible to create a new category using the user prefs path instead, but that new category wouldn't stick until I first created a new Autotext in the default My Autotext category as described in the wiki. I've raised this as bugzilla #2446.

Should that necessary path change be noted in the wiki article, Jaqueline?

Of course, you are right. I'll add that information in the Fr and En articles.
Thanks for having pointed that out

Improvement done in the two versions.
@ Valter and Roy : I added the modification in French and in comments in the Italian and Spanish pages.

Is this normal behavior, and should bug 2446 be closed ? |

I think it's normal behavior, because the
/Applications/NeoOffice.app/Contents/share/autotext folder is "read only".
You can change that if you have admin rights.
It's a bit annoying, because you can't remove or change the built-in autotext without changing the permissions. Maybe it would be a good thing to add that to the wiki article?

I see only the options of [command] or [command+shift]. I can't see the [shift] option.
Am i looking at the right place - under tools/customize/keyboard(upper frame) ?
tnx, asher |

Despite what was said above, I don't think Shift is an option, since shift is needed for regular keyboard entry.
