I don't know, Seems to me that supporting team members is better than ... hassle them.
Maybe that's why there is a difference between Leadership vs. Management?

I saw that. Not Eric's best moment. It looked to me as if he was trying to guilt-trip Maho into keeping up the builds.
Fortunately, Maho didn't quite go for that, and other people stepped in to take the pressure off.

If I understand this correctly (cause there are a lot of quotes so it's hard to keep track of who said what), the first "development snapshot" release was rushed while Pavel was on vacation, without his approval, and Pavel was quite surprised (shocked?) when he heard it. As for "codename Neo", maybe this :

OpenOffice.org doesn't need any more PR than it has already. Every small development is pushed and reported on blogs and elsewhere as if the concept of office suites has been reinvented. I would think it makes no use to further heat expectations, but this is certainly not me to decide.
In the end, if people get what they are let to believe - an OpenOffice.org for the Mac, native, stable, fast (faster than Neo), Cocoa-like; practically NeoOffice on speed - all that is necessary is to put a copy on a server. Word of mouth (and blog etc.) will make the rest. In any case. |

ah isn't this the catch-22?
we don't make fun of them when they work hard and make good choices (which is most of the time...)
it is when they run a release that isn't ready for public consumption just for hype. that is the bad thing.
i think most of the openoffice.org team doesn't realize that we are some of their biggest supporters. |

I read somewhere (I forget now) some quite angry comments by would-be users of "OpenOffice Aqua" that they discovered quite by accident that the build they downloaded was a "developer preview" and most things didn't work.
The callous disregard for "their" users is the thing that gets me, every time.

I keep wondering where all of this PR that we supposedly get is being published. Sure, we get the occasional blog post about NeoOffice, but I just don't think that PR is what they need. My guess is that most new users find NeoOffice either by Googling for free Mac office suites or by word of mouth. In fact, I don't doubt that many people already find OOo's Mac X11 and Aqua builds the same way.
In other words, if you are looking to get the media paparazzi following you around, pursuing an Hollywood acting career would seem a better bet than developing an open source office suite.
