Hi, I just installed the latest newoffice on my intel mac and patch 1 and for some reason the spell checker is refusing to work.
When i check a document it simply says spellcheck complete even when there are many obvious errors. i have tried changing the prefs to us english but for some resason it reverts to czech which doesnt have the small abc nect to it which i assume means it cannot be used with spelll check?
i have tried deleting neooffice prefs and this is of no help.

Well, the odd thing is that US English doesn't have a checkmark by it, as a US English dictionary is included with the Neo download.
All of your other concerns are discussed in this wiki article. (See in particular the section titled "Auto Spellcheck doesn't work in .doc Files" even if you aren't having a problem with a .doc file)
Given the issues with US English, would you please post screen shots of the following two windows:
Preferences>Language Settings>Languages
and
Preferences>Language Settings>Writing Aids
Also, where, specifically, are you seeing the "Czech setting"?
Do you have any spelling utilities installed? (e.g. CocoAspell or Spell catcher)

Are you trying to change the language in NeoOffice > Preferences… > Language Settings > Writing Aids > NeoOffice Mac OS X Spellchecker with Hunspell > Edit… ?
Selecting a new language there will have no effect as it is merely a list of avalable writing tools, and will always revert to Czech (or English for some). You need to follow the instructions provided on the Wiki page (see Lorinda's post for the link).

I definitely see a checkmark next to English (USA) in every dialog I've checked. I don't know why there isn't one for you.
