Hi all. I'm using OO 1.1.2 but can't understand why i can't use italic for a lot of fonts. For example if i use Didot it works, if i use Times i must explicitly use TimesItalic, if i use Monaco it doesn't work. I discovered this problem while opening a MS Office Word document formatted as Times New Roman. I tried reinstalling OO but it didn't help. Also how can i load MS Office fonts? I tried spadmin but after selecting MS Office /fonts folder no font didn't show up for selection. Any help is welcome.
thanks.

This has something to do with how OOo expects font families to be named as opposed to Mac font family names. If a TrueType font is being used and Italic is applied, the italics are actually not displayed on the screen, but the italics should still print out in hardcopy.
There was a thread a while back on fixing up the font family naming issues, but I don't recall offhand if there was a resolution to it or not.

Yes that's exactly what happens. If i select italic i don't see it on screen but if i re-open with MS Word italic is there. That's terrible. Hope someone knows a fix. Is the problem the same also on Neooffice/J and Neooffice? |

NeoJ doesn't have that display issue with italics AFAIK. Patrick's done quite a bit of work making sure the font families match up properly.

javascript:emoticon('')That's good news and an opportunity for me to try NeoJ. I'll download it on Monday. |

I need to bookmark that thread; it's been coming up left and right lately.
Short answer: No, I never figured it out. Someone who has lots of free time and knows the OOo code probably could, but I fail both of those conditions
And the thread Ed mentioned, for all the gory details (esp. if you meet one of the two conditions I mentioned above).
