while writing a paper due in an hour and a half my cat crawled on my lab and stepped on the computer. a prompt popped up asking if I wanted to delete or save and when I clicked on my mousepad to click save I accidentally clicked delete. when I reopened my paper it was four pages too short. where did the pages go? how do I recover them? Can I somehow open a previously saved copy of that file? This was a saved file.. there is no reason why pages should be missing. please help. I am desperate... and in the meantime will be rewriting.
In your case, when you accidently pressed the Delete button, you discarded all changes that you had made since the last save which is most likely the reason that four pages were missing: you opened a document, added a bunch of text, and by pressing Delete, never saved those changed. Those changes were only in memory and pressing Delete merely erases those changes from memory. Nothing gets saved to your hard drive until you explicitly save the document.
When you reopened the document, you were opening the last saved version. So, unless you had those missing pages in saved in your document prior to the last saved version, your changes are not recoverable.
