i have a calc column that is all hyperlinks. i find that when i click
one of these hyperlink cells the selection does not automatically
refocus to the clicked cell if the focus is on another cell.
how do i make the selection follow to the clicked cell?
I think this requires two steps, first select the cell and then click on the hyperlink. Otherwise, simply selecting the hyperlink opens the link without selecting the cell.
In my Calc document I navigate my cursor so it is an arrow in the cell containing the hyperlink. It changes to a hand when I move over the hyperlink so I move within the cell until it turns to an arrow again and then click. After that I click the hyperlink.
Unfortunately, this behavior is the standard behavior of NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code. The same behavior occurs in both OpenOffice.org 2.2.1
(which NeoOffice 2.2.5 is based on) and in OpenOffice.org 3.0 (which NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access 2 is based on).
so, yours is a click twice solution? click once to select,
click again to hyperlink? that's pretty much how it works
now.
i'm trying to set things up to be as user friendly as i can
since this is a spreadsheet for someone who's pretty much
computer-illiterate. to me that means a one-click solution.
what i've got set up is a list of media files. i want to have
one column of filenames which the user can click and the file
will open and play in a player. that works - one click on the
filename and it plays. good for a novice.
the other component is to have another, adjacent column with
a link that can be clicked to 'find' the file. a click in that column
will open the finder and highlight the file so it can be moved
or copied wherever. navigation is difficult for the user so i'm
trying to make things as easy as possible.
bottom line is i'm trying to get to an overall two-click solution,
one to play the file, one to reveal it.
not having the focus follow the click means that there is a
problem in the reveal part of this process. i have to copy the
cell contents, the filename, so it can be used by an applescript
to reveal the file in the finder. if the focus doesn't follow to the
clicked cell, the wrong data is copied and sent to the applescript.
