|
I'm looking to add some text at the right hand side of a DL or #10 envelope, reading from bottom to top. But frames allow text to be in any direction except this: either way horizontal but only one way vertical. The work-round is to set up the envelope sideways with the "vertical" text at the top of the page and the main address in a frame, but that means the address is coming sideways when you type it - easy to miss a mistake.
Am I missing something obvious? (It wouldn't be the first time!)

From NeoOffice Help:
Rotating Text
1.You can only rotate text that is contained in a drawing object.
2.Choose View - Toolbars- Drawing to open the Drawing toolbar.
3.Select the Text icon .
4.Drag in your document to draw the text object, and then type your text.
5.Click outside of the object, then click the text you entered. Click the Rotate icon on the Drawing Object Properties toolbar.
6.Drag one of the corner handles of the text object.
You can also right-click the text object, choose Position and Size, click the Rotation tab, and then enter a rotation angle or a new position for the object.

Thanks for such a speedy response, yoxi. Yes. I realise you can rotate text in Draw and I could obviously set up an envelope template that way. I just wondered why frames in Write have this slightly odd anomaly, letting you orient text in three directions but not the fourth.

Those instructions are not just for using text in Draw, they're how to use a draw frame within a Writer doc - so you can go ahead and set up a Writer template doc with such a frame in it.
I don't know why the text/image frame is implemented differently from this Draw-type frame - perhaps it's faster on slow machines, being part of the Writer code rather than the Draw code?
Anyway, this should suit your needs.
