When pasting images, NeoOffice recognzies the following native clipboard data flavors. The first matching data flavor found is used:
PDF
PNG
TIFF
PICT
Since PDF is the first match in your output, PDF is the data flavor that NeoOffice is using.
What happens then is that we convert your PDF data to PNG format using Apple's QuickTime image conversion functions. We do this conversion because NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code does not support pasting or dropping of any vector graphics formats and only supports PNG and BMP format.
So, a rasterizeded copy of the PDF should be appear when dropped in NeoOffice. Are you not seeing that? If not, do you see the resterized image when you copy and paste from LaTeXit?

Copy and paste of a LaTeXit PDF image works, and results in a raster image being inserted. That's fine so far and exactly how you described it.
Drag and Drop does NOT work, I just cannot drop the image, although LaTeXit is supposed to deliver a PDF when I set it to PDF (I can choose any of the mentioned formats). It does not work with PNG or other formats either. The dragged image just jumps back and is not dropped.

This tells me that LaTeXit is not assigning the same Apple system clipboard flavors on the drag clipboard as it does when copying.
Since Mac OS X puts drag data flavors in a private clipboard (not the system clipboard) I don't know how you would determine what data flavors LaTeXit is actually putting in the drag clipboard, but clearly what is in their doesn't match the image data flavors that NeoOffice recognizes.

When i generate a pdf ( or any other format) image of an equation in Latexit and insert into Neooffice (3.0 patch 5) the image is fuzzy and light. Dropping the same into Pages yields a nice crisp image. This is with respect to screen appearance and printed appearance. I have attached Any thoughts??
I have included a Writer file with just a sample.

To get crisp images, you need to export EPS files from Latexit and then insert them into NeoOffice using the Insert Image command, not copy/paste or drag/drop.
