|
I have been using NeoOffice on my MacBook with latest Leopard OS for about a year now and have run up against a problem I don't know how to solve and help doesn't help.
I am trying to use neooffice for translating purposes and open two documents on my desktop. One in English and the other in Spanish. The English version does all the spellcheck functions with no problem. However, the Spanish document just doesn't get it and practically all the words are underlined in red plus I get no suggestions for word changes in Spanish.
I have gone to Preferences>Languages and set Spanish as the language for just that document (I have US English set as my default language) but with no results.
In autocorrect, Spanish comes up as the language and I can also select English if I want. (or any of a number of others). This makes me think that I do not need to download the language pack as it seems to be full of languages.
To cut it short, what do I need to do to have one document respond to one language and another document respond to another?
I live in Spain and have my locale setting set Spain in Preferences but my default language is English. I don't think this should have any influence but thought I should mention it.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.
Thanks. |

Have you looked at this page in the NeoWiki? Does it help at all? |

Particularly the linked article Selecting the Dictionary to be Used in a Document or Section?
It sounds like the text in the document doesn't think it's Spanish (having an incorrect language assignment is common with text pasted from other documents or from documents that originated in MS Word).

Thanks for the replies.
I will have a close look at the two pages you suggest.
Sardisson, I think you may have given me the clue. I am pretty sure that I did, indeed, copy and paste the Spanish into a new document before changing any of the language options. That would explain most everything underlined in red. It thinks it is badly spelled Spanish. Now I just have to figure out how to work around this as most things are sent to me in emails or .doc files.
Will get back if I find the solution in case this thread is helpful to anyone else. |

As someone who regularly has to switch between Canadian English and Canadian French, I created a default template with styles for the two languages--default and default2.
So if I want to paste French into the file, I make sure the new file open has default2 selected as the style.
If you are not mixing languages, then you should create a template in which all styles have Spanish selected. Then before pasting open a new file selecting the Spanish template.
