|
When working with a Base document connected to a spreadsheet and a related Writer document pulling data from that data source, I got a blank warning dialog and a blank table when trying to access the tables.
To reproduce:
-download attached MiddleEarth.ods file
-In NeoOffice, go to the New menu and choose Database
-In the dialog that appears, select "connect to an existing database" and set the source type to "Spreadsheet."
-Click "Next"
-"Click Browse", navigate to the Middle Earth.ods file, click "Open"
-Click "Next"
-Make sure that "Yes, register the database for me" is checked
-Click Finish
-Give new database file a name and save
-New Base document will open
-click on "tables" then double click on "GoodGuys" to see contents of table
-Close the database file
-Create a new Writer document
-Click on the Data Sources icon on the toolbar
-In the Data Sources Viewer, navigate to the MiddleEarth database, and choose the GoodGuys Table (you may need to click on disclosure triangles to drill down to it)
-Drag the fields to the Writer document
-Select one or more rolse of data in the Data Source Viewer and click on the Data to Fields button (datasources icon with a which verticle retangle in the upper left corner)
-Save document
-Open MiddleEarth.ods file (the spreadsheet) It will open as read only
-Close MiddleEarth.ods
-Open the odb (Base File)
-Click on Tables, then double click on "BadGuys" The blank warning will appear
-BadGuys table will open, but will be empty

Lorinda,
Thanks for helping pre-test my final build. I suspect that this is a bug in the native file locking feature that we added in NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access.
Fran and I will try to reproduce this bug today. Since we still have a couple of days until the Early Access Program starts, I will try to fix this before we release NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access. But if I cannot, I will continue working on it after release.

Hi Lorinda -
Thank you for providing a sample document and a well written set of steps to reproduce the problem.
Unfortunately, I can reproduce this behavior in OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 and Openoffice.org 3.1 as well as NeoOffice 3.0. So this appears to be a bug in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code rather than the new native file locking that we added in NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access.

Thanks, Fran.
For future reference (if others run into this), all can be set to rights by quitting Neo and restarting. The "fly in the ointment" is the Writer file using the datasource. As long as no such Writer files have been opened during that session, one can switch back and forth between spreadsheet and base document without any problem, as long as only one of them is open at a time. Only by adding the Writer document into the mix do the problems I encountered appear.
Lorinda
P.S. I suppose I should file a bug at OOo. Do you have a suggestion as to which version I should file it against, given that you could reproduce it in 3.1? |

Hi Lorinda -
I would suggest filing the bug against OpenOffice.org 3.1 since it is a more recent version. I did take a look through the OpenOffice.org Issue Tracker, but I did not find a bug that matched. Of course my search terms may have missed it.
thanks

I've filed it as Issue 105030.
