|
In NeoOffice and not in any other Mac application I have including OpenOffice, there is font in the font menu called "Times Roman." I also have Times New Roman and Times. Don't confuse Times Roman with Times New Roman.
I have never installed a Times Roman font and there is not a visible font file by that name anywhere on my hard drive. I run with a minimum set of fonts that I actually use and I don't use Times Roman.
I'm assuming that this font is included within the NeoOffice package. If so, where is it and can I safely remove it. If it's not within the NeoOffice package, how can it appear in the NeoOffice pull down font menu but not appear in any other app?
Thanks. |

This is not a custom NeoOffice font. Instead, Times Roman is really the Times font that Apple bundles with all versions of Mac OS X. You can see this font if you launch the /Applications/Font Book application and scroll down to the Times font in the font list.
Because NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code likes to use use the Times font as a default font but their code assumes that the Times font's full name is Times Roman, we use Times Roman as an alternate name for the Times font so that the OpenOffice.org code will find the native Times font.
Unfortunately, you can only see the alternate Times Roman in the font list instead of the real native Times font name.

Thanks. It now seems so obvious when I look carefully at the pull down fonts menu in NeoOffice. Sorry for bothering you...I should have been able to figure that out. |

No worries. I don't think that it is obvious as it is a hack specifically for NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code. It would be especially hard to figure out if you had font preview disabled in the font list like I do.
