Friends --

I want to password-protect a Neo Office doc. In your Wiki I find:

If you select the Format menu, then the Cells… item, and if you click on the Cell Protection tab, you notice that the Protected box in the Protection section is checked by default. If you want to protect a document or a sheet, don't modify that option.

To protect the document, choose the Tools menu, then the Protect Document submenu and select Document…. In the window that appears, enter a password and confirm it. Click OK.

But when I'm in the doc I want to protect, the Format menu doesn't have a Cells item, and the Tools menu doesn't have a Protect Document submenu. Can you advise?

Thanks

For me, I always see the Format :: Cells menu in my Calc documents. The instructions you quoted are only applicable to Calc documents so maybe you are trying to find a Calc feature in a Writer document?

OK, that clarifies that. I'm not trying to use Calc. Is there any way to password-protect a simple Neo Office word doc sitting on my desktop? Thanks. Don

If you simply want to password protect the NeoOffice document to stop people opening/editing the file without the password, all you need to do is check the box for "Save with password" at the bottom of the Save dialog. If you want to allow people to view but not edit a document then an editing-restricted PDF is a good option.

Yes, I want to prevent other people from opening a certain word-processing doc.

I see the save, save all and save as commands under "file" on the toolbar. I see the save icon. But I don't see a save dialog in a Neo Office wp doc. It doesn't turn up in Neo's help pages either.

Where can I find the save dialog? Thanks. Don

Use the File :: Save As menu. Once you save with password protection, you can then use File :: Save or the Save toolbar icon to save any changes and the same password will be used.

After you first add password protection using the File :: Save As menu, I would recommend that you close and reopen your document to verify that NeoOffice asks you for a password. If NeoOffice does not ask you for a password, then you know that you have not properly password protected your document.

I added a note at the top of the Calc article to clarify that the article refers to protecting document contents in Calc from being edited, not to requiring a password to open a NeoOffice {Writer|Calc} document.
