I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug - but it's different behaviour from 3.0.2.
Previously if I selected a block of cells and then clicked one of the Toolbar "Sort" buttons, the rows would be sorted according to the left-hand column. But in 3.1.1 the sort column depends on how I select the block. If the initial click is in the left-hand column the sort follows the previous pattern. But if I select the same block by starting in the right-hand column, then it sorts according to that column instead. |

This is actually a new feature that Novell's Go-oo engineers added to NeoOffice 3.1.1's underlying OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 code.
When you select a block of cells, you will now see that the "selected cell" in the block is in the column that you started dragging your mouse from. The column that the selected cell is in is the column that the sorting toolbar buttons will use as the column to sort on.

Thanks for the speedy response, Patrick. It's actually a very useful feature, but it will take a bit of getting used to. Up to now I think the direction in which I've selected a block has been more or less random. |
