Ok, first, i didn't know quite where to put this, so i picked the neo topic, since it was in the middle.
there are currently three versions of OO.o, X11, Neo and Neo/J. Not to meantion two versions of Neo, and two of OO.o. (probably more versions i am missing too, but lets just go with that for now)
how many of these can we have comfortably installed next to each other? if i install a version of Neo, does my X11 go down, or does Neo/J make my Neo work strange?
Although I can't speak for OOo and NeoOffice, I can speak for NeoOffice/J.
NeoJ can coexist with both OOo and NeoOffice on the same machine. NeoJ does this by maintaining separate configuration files and separate "IPC pipes" (a hidden feature in OOo). Also, NeoJ does not use the infamous $HOME/.sversionrc file that has confounded many OOo users.
The only known conflict that NeoJ has is with NeoOffice. The conflict is that if you have both installed and you double-click on an OOo document in the Finder, it will be opened in the last application installed.

Neo/J is perfectly happy beside anything...it's near completely (if not utterly) self contained and isolated from any other OOo or plain old Neo installation. It's also the only one that's really rock solid multi-user as well. Patrick really got all of the config stuff right
OOo can live alongside of Neo provided that you edit your ".sversionrc" manually. OOo (brand x or GM) identify themselves with the "OpenOffice.org 1.0.3" program name. Neo currently identifies itself as "OpenOffice.org 1.0.1".
Either the Neo self-correcting install or the OOo self correcting install will nuke the entire .sversionrc file, so you'll have to check it if one or the other stops working and says you need to start "setup".
