Surprisingly, I was able to find the fix for this OpenOffice.org bug rather quickly. Merging the fix for OpenOffice.org bug 104716 only required me to changed one line of code in NeoOffice so I have posted the fix in the following test patch.
Does the following test patch speed up saving Calc documents with cell notes and the new NeoOffice :: Mac OS X Options :: Quick Look Support in Documents :: All Pages menu is checked? If yes, can you print to the Preview application or export to PDF to verify that this fix does not cause any part of your Calc document to not be printed?:
Seems OK. Printed to PDF fine. Still a slow way to save on a big worksheet, but faster then it was before. 15 second save on one file now 7 seconds.
With first page only selected it takes 1 second or so to save.
Still Versions has helped me more then once by being able to look back through the versions to decide which one to restore and without a multipage view that isn't possible, you need to open, check out, back into Versions, open another, check it out - until you find the version you're looking for.
FYI. I will put out NeoOffice 3.2.1 Patch 1 with the new feature and the Calc print bug fix early next week. In the meantime, if you or anyone else sees printing or export as PDF problems using the test patch, please let us know.
