Thanks for the updated .zip file. It is now in our code repository.

I actually find it easier to read now; I guess my eyes benefit far more from the increased line-spacing than they're hurt by the lighter color

I agree that the line spacing is good . _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"

This looks to be the most recent icon thread so I'll throw my latest experiment in here for your appraisal. For a while now Apple has been favouring Helvetica Neue over Lucida Grande so I thought I'd try the same for the splash image. The other big change is the lack of claim: "Bringing the power of OpenOffice.org to Mac OS X". Perhaps the NO project is at the stage where NeoOffice can carry itself by its own proud name without a need to mention OOo so prominently.
I know this is out of band but I had to scratch the itch. I think the switch to Helvetica Neue in particular looks strong and clean. Your thoughts are welcome as ever. |

Well, given that OOo is having some hickups, now might not be a bad time to drop it. On the other hand, it raises expectations that NeoOffice is built from scratch, which may increase grumbling from people who try it.

I do like the font. Strong and clean, as you said. _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"

Good points. For the next patch, we should replace "2003-2009 Sun Microsystems Inc." with "2000-2010 Oracle and/or its affiliates" since Sun Microsystems Inc.'s sale to Oracle is now complete.
Later this year, the next likely upgrade path is LibreOffice since LibreOffice is where Novell's moved the Go-oo code that we use. When we upgrade to using the LibreOffice code, we will have to replace the above with LibreOffice's standard copyright text.

I definitely prefer the new look; the old one was hitting the legibility/wonky-shape limits of Lucida Grande (i.e., LG works well at a few very specific point sizes, but its letterforms look really odd at all the other sizes ). (I also happen to be fond of Helvetica--less so of Helvetica New, but it works well here IMO.)
Nice work, Daniel! _________________ "[...] whether the duck drinks hot chocolate or coffee is irrelevant." -- ovvldc and sardisson in the NeoWiki |

Will do.
Thanks for the feedback. If there are no objections to the new splash, I'm happy to make the copyright change and package it for CVS now, so that Patrick has it ready to go for the next patch.
The OOo claim is on standby for reinsertion if there's a consensus in favour of it. For my tuppence, since the Oracle and LibreOffice hoopla, I'm seeing OOo mentioned in mostly negative terms in the tech press these days so I think losing the claim does more good than harm. |

Just to confirm, I only need to include the "about.bmp" and "intro.bmp" files in the zip file's "NeoOffice Aqua Elements 3/Contents/MacOS" folder in the next patch, right?
I will put the whole zip file in our code repository, but I can only include the above two images in a patch.

Yep that's correct, just those two files are needed. |

It was a slow day today, so I was staring at the splash screen as Neo loaded, and I just wanted to say how much nicer the new splash looks _________________ "[...] whether the duck drinks hot chocolate or coffee is irrelevant." -- ovvldc and sardisson in the NeoWiki |
