I open a doc in NeoOffice (v3.3b2), then I close it. There are no windows open, and the menubar looks normal. I go away, I come back, still normal.
I go away for longer, I come back - and there's only the NeoOffice item in the menubar, which has no Recent Items in it. When it's like this, I can't use cmd-n or cmd-shift-n to open new docs. I have to quit and relaunch to get NeoOffice back to normal menubar behaviour.
Is there anything useful I could send you by way of logs, next time this happens?
It sounds like our new "de-Javafied" menubar update code is failing to update the menubar properly. So, I am most interested in the what steps you did immediately before you saw an empty menubar.
Specifically, when you say you went away, does that mean that you put the machine to sleep while NeoOffice was the active application? Or does it mean that you made another application active and when you switched back to NeoOffice, the menubar was empty?
If the second case, do you remember how you switched back to NeoOffice? Did you click on NeoOffice's Dock icon, press the Command-Tab keys, or click on the titlebar or content area of a NeoOffice window?
I meant I went to a different application (or 6), and eventually came back to NeoOffice. I'm pretty sure it's happened mostly without the mac going to sleep between times, while I've been sat here working.
Whether I do that by using cmd-tab or by clicking on the dock icon depends on where my mouse is on the screen at the time! I'm probably most likely to click on the icon, though - in fact, I just did it and got the same problem again.
This only happens when there are no NeoOffice windows open.
Okay, interesting. I just quit NeoOffice, relaunched it, went away (to FireFox), came back to NeoOffice, opened a spreadsheet and then closed it again - and immediately the menu changed to the NeoOffice-only one.

I can reproduce the empty menubar bug using your steps on Mac OS X 10.7.4. I will investigate and, once I find the cause and I am able to fix this bug, I will post a test patch for you to try.
