|
Despite the fact that we have not allowed free posting in our forums since 2009, the number of spammers creating new accounts has steadily increased.
The load on our servers from spammer registrations is minimal so we had not restricted creating new accounts. However, spammers have gotten more sophisticated over time and it appears that some portion of spammers use their new account to probe for ways to get around our posting restrictions.
So, to reduce the likelihood of spammers getting around our posting restrictions, we have changed the forum software to only allow users whose e-mail address matches at least one payment to us in the past.
Using this new restriction, we also removed over 18000+ forum users that had no matching payment in the past and had no posts or had never sent a private message. The 9700+ users that are still active either have a matching payment in the past or have posts and/or private messages in our system.
As before, all of our forums remain viewable without a user account.
