Hey Patrick,

I've had very few of the hangs I had earlier, but they do still pop up. And on one occasion, I managed to get a sample, even though the hang subsided while it was collecting.

Let me know if this helps. If not, I will keep using and try to get to Activity Monitor faster.

best wishes,
Oscar

Thank you for the process sample file. From the sample, it appears to me that the hang is occurring in Mac OS X's "spell to a word" function.

I am not sure what is causing Mac OS X's spellcheck service to hang for a particular word though since the hang is deep inside of Apple's code but from the sample it appears to me that the native spellcheck function is repeatedly trying to connect to Mac OS X's spellchecking service. Presumably, this means that Mac OS X's spellchecking service is either hanging or failing to start.

Are there are any messages in the /Application/Utiilities/Console application within a few minutes of the hang? The hang time in the sample file is 2014-06-21 22:38:46 your local time.

The rest seems to have cycled out already. I don't know where to find whatever else is in the various logs that might be useful, at least I can't see NeoOffice anywhere.

If there is nothing in the logs, I doubt there is much more either of us can do in this particular case. I was hoping that Mac OS X's spellcheck service would write log messages but since it does not, the spellcheck service's operation is pretty opaque.

My only theory is that Mac OS X's spellcheck service process had crashed and so NeoOffice's request for spellchecking blocked until the spellcheck service restarted.

Nothing on spellcheck either Sad. I'll post if I get another sample, and dig for the logs at the same time.

Thanks for looking. Smile
