Posted: Sun Apr 26, 2015 7:43 pm Post subject: Fixes for trackpad swiping and scroll wheel bugs
Recently, a NeoOffice user discovered the following bugs when swiping the trackpad or moving the scroll wheel:
NeoOffice no longer pauses after several swipes. NeoOffice's swipe event handling code would sometimes pause for a moment if the user swiped several times in a row.
Swiping or moving the scroll wheel very slowly will now move only a single line or row at a time. Before, NeoOffice would randomly jump 2 or 3 lines when swiping or moving the scroll wheel very slowly.
When swiping or moving the scroll wheel rapidly, the page or row number tooltip no longer flickers rapidly. The flickering tooltip was caused by NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice code closing and reopening the tooltip after each swipe or scrolling event.
OS X Yosemite users: if NeoOffice does not launch or has any new bugs after upgrading to OS X Yosemite, we recommend that you try each of the steps listed in the Yosemite Upgrade Issues NeoWiki article.

Recently, some users have experienced problems with NeoOffice immediately after upgrading to OS X Yosemite. Fortunately, most of these OS X Yosemite problems have simple fixes.
If you are having any problems after upgrading to OS X Yosemite, we recommend that you try each of the steps listed in the Yosemite Upgrade Issues NeoWiki article.
The first step - upgrading to NeoOffice 2014.10 or NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 14 - is the most important step as these NeoOffice versions includes many OS X Yosemite bug fixes.
NeoOffice no longer pauses after several swipes. NeoOffice's swipe event handling code would sometimes pause for a moment if the user swiped several times in a row.

These bug fixes are now available in the following NeoOffice updates:
If you already purchased NeoOffice in the Mac App Store, you can upgrade to NeoOffice 2014.11 for free. To upgrade, launch the App Store application, select the Store :: Sign In menu, login using your Apple iTunes account, click on the "Purchases" icon, and press the "Install" or "Upgrade" button to the right of NeoOffice.

Posted: Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:55 am Post subject: Faster handling of lengthy documents with tables
A user reported that NeoOffice could temporarily hang when opening, editing, saving, printing, exporting to PDF, or previewing lengthy, 100+ page documents with tables.
We found that this hanging was due to NeoOffice recalculating the document's page breaks and table cell sizes. To avoid such hanging, the NeoOffice engineers have made the following changes:
When opening, editing, or saving Writer documents, NeoOffice now recalculates page breaks and table cell sizes in the background in small chunks over the course of a few minutes. By deferring the recalculation, you no longer need to wait for the recalculation to finish before you can continue editing your document.
When printing, exporting to PDF, or previewing Writer documents, NeoOffice now displays a dialog if recalculating page breaks and table cell sizes takes more than 30 seconds. This dialog gives you the option to cancel the recalculation. If you cancel the recalculation, NeoOffice uses rough guesses to set page breaks and table cells and immediately proceeds to printing, exporting to PDF, or previewing your document.

Last week, we posted test patches that make handling of lengthy, 100+ page documents with tables signficantly faster.
Previous versions of NeoOffice could temporarily hang when opening, editing, saving, printing, exporting to PDF, or previewing lengthy documents with tables. This hanging was due to NeoOffice recalculating the document's page breaks and table cell sizes. To avoid such hanging, the NeoOffice engineers have made the following changes:

Posted: Sat Jul 18, 2015 8:11 pm Post subject: Fix for security vulnerability
We recently found that NeoOffice has security vulnerability CVE-2015-1774. This security vulnerability was originally found in OpenOffice and LibreOffice and occurs when opening documents with a file name ending in .hwp.
Fortunately, the LibreOffice engineers have already fixed this security vulnerability in LibreOffice 4.4.2 so we have backported LibreOffice's fix into NeoOffice.

Recently, we posted test patches that fix several security vulnerabilities and El Capitan Beta bugs. Fixes for these bugs are now available in the following NeoOffice updates:
If you already purchased NeoOffice in the Mac App Store, you can upgrade to NeoOffice 2014.13 for free. To upgrade, launch the App Store application, select the Store :: Sign In menu, login using your Apple iTunes account, click on the "Purchases" icon, and press the "Install" or "Upgrade" button to the right of NeoOffice.
These updates fix the following bugs. Special thanks go to the security researchers and engineers at LibreOffice.org who identified and provided fixes for these bugs:
NeoOffice no longer crashes when opening some Hangul WP 97 .hwp documents.
NeoOffice no longer crashes when opening some older Microsoft Word .doc documents.
NeoOffice now asks the user for permission before updating links in a document. In previous versions of NeoOffice, NeoOffice would silently update links in some documents.
These updates also fix the following El Capitan Beta bugs:
Opening a new window while in full screen mode no longer causes NeoOffice to hang
Typing text in a full screen mode window no longer fails

Posted: Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:38 pm Post subject: NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition released
We have released NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition. We created this new release for users who are currently using NeoOffice 3.4.1 or earlier that expect to upgrade to Apple's upcoming OS X El Capitan.
NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition has all of the same features as NeoOffice 3.4.1. Specifically, this version of NeoOffice contains all of the features that are in NeoOffice 3.4.1 plus the following new features:
NeoOffice is now a 64 bit application instead of a 32 bit application so it does not have any of issues that we found when running NeoOffice 3.4.1 on OS X El Capitan Beta
NeoOffice now uses Oracle's Java SE Development Kit (JDK) so Base users can view and edit NeoOffice, OpenOffice, and LibreOffice database files without having to install Apple's obsolete version of Java
In addition to these new features, this version of NeoOffice fixes the following bugs:
After starting a slide show from a presentation document that is in full screen mode, exiting the slide show would disable the OS X menubar until the presentation document was closed
When opening a document while in full screen mode that contains linked but not embedded images or OLE objects, NeoOffice would shrink the newly opened full screen mode window
When saving certain documents that contain embedded images or OLE objects, NeoOffice would would fail to save one or more of the embedded images or OLE objects
This version also fixes the following bug. Special thanks go to the engineers at LibreOffice.org who identified and provided a fix for this bug:
NeoOffice would crash when opening certain Microsoft Word .doc documents
Users who have paid US$ 10 (or € 10 or £ 7) within the last year can download NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition from the NeoOffice download page. If you are currently using NeoOffice 3.4.1 or earlier and you expect to upgrade to Apple's upcoming OS X El Capitan in the near future, we recommend that you install NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition.
If you are currently using the Mac App Store version of NeoOffice, you do not need to purchase NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition as you will receive our OS X El Capitan fixes through a free update in the Mac App Store. We estimate that Apple's Mac App Store review team will approve the update within the next two weeks.

If you are having any problems after upgrading to OS X El Capitan, we recommend that you try each of the steps listed in the El Capitan Upgrade Issues NeoWiki article.
The following are the most common problems that our users have reported after upgrading to OS X El Capitan:
NeoOffice crashes or the Save dialog does not display - Both of these problems are usually caused by damaged NeoOffice user preference files. For some unknown reason, upgrading to El Capitan damages these NeoOffice files. If you have either of these problems, try this step and this step.
NeoOffice cannot find Java - If you recently upgraded to NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition, you need to install the Java SE Development Kit (JDK) from Oracle. Only Oracle's JDK will work. Neither Apple's Java nor Oracle's Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) will work with NeoOffice 2015 Classic Edition.

Fortunately, Apple fixed this failure before it affected very many users. However, some users may see this error when using NeoOffice.
If you see this error, we recommend that you reboot your machine. After you reboot your machine, OS X may prompt you to enter your Mac App Store user name and password when you quit NeoOffice. After you enter your Mac App Store user name and password, OS X should stop reporting that NeoOffice is damaged.
If OS X still displays an error that NeoOffice is damaged and cannot be opened after you reboot your machine, please send us an e-mail using the steps listed in this Neowiki article.
