While testing NeoOffice's new VoiceOver support, we found that NeoOffice's non-native popup menus have very limited accessibility support.
Both OpenOffice and LibreOffice solved this problem several years ago by switching to native popup menus. Since native popup menus have the same level of accessibility as the macOS menubar, we have also switched to native popup menus.
You do not need to wait until the next release to get this change. You can get this change now by downloading and installing one of the following test patches:
Important warning: This feature is still in the experimental stage. We have made significant changes to LibreOffice's code to run within NeoOffice's multithreaded event dispatching code so we expect that there are still undiscovered hanging or crashing bugs.
If you experience a hanging or crashing bug while using VoiceOver or any other macOS accessibility features, feel free to create a bug report in NeoOffice's issue tracker. It would be very helpful if you can attach a crash log or, for hangs, a sample from the Activity Monitor application to your bug report.
