I've written up some documentation on the Spotlight plugin and placed it into the Wiki:

It includes instructions on how to install, test, known issues, and developer information like getting the source code and building. Since the docs will probably be changing frequently, the Wiki makes good sense!
Feel free to ask any other questions in this forum or point out how the docs should change if you don't want to edit them yourself.
