Since this is a software development type forum, I thought we could talk about the tools for the development, the programming languages.
"I want to help, where do I start?"
Well, you have to know something, prefferably some language, but which one?
What about Neo development? What language(s) would help for development?
I can put in my two cents about web stuff, if anyone is interested (learn Perl!!) since it was my proffession (now my hobby, disturbing huh?).

Most of NeoOffice is written in C++, with some C, some Objective-C (Cocoa) and some Java. There's also shell scripts and a few perl scripts.
NeoOffice/J is also largely C++, with some C, and a bunch more Java than NeoOffice proper.
I would say, try to compile the code first (check out with the Pre11Source tag though). If you have _any_ questions, don't hesitate to ask!

i guess more of what i was asking was: if someone were to ask, 'what language should i learn for MacOSX development?' what would your answer be?
and then specific answer for Neo.
