This 'Patch 4' updater error appears when the update installer asks for "Select a Destination". I am unable to select a volume. This error appeared after Tiger update. Neooffice continues to work.

It sounds like you only have a Neo/J version that is older than 1.1 Release Candidate installed. Check out the following post for a more detailed explanation:

This error is actually a bug in Apple Installer and isn't something we can fix, unfortunately. None of the "volume check" messages explaning why software can't install are visible in any installer, not just NeoJ.
