i am having major problems when i try to sort columns of code such as
AC100, AC103, AC102... if i choose the option to sort ascending or descending... the sort does not structure properly. i have heard that this
is definately a bug and that there should be a fix for it, but i cannot find any information on the neooffice site. please help. any suggestions.
someone smarter than me will make my night !
i have already tried to instal the bug fix NeoOffice-2.0_Aqua_Beta_3-Patch-12-Intel.dmg
this did not work.
I am running an intel mac.
thank you.
Some sorting bugs on Intel were due to a bug in Apple's compiler and will be fixed in NeoOffice 2.1 when we switched to a new Xcode version with a fixed compiler.
Other sorting bugs persist even after the compiler switch, which indicates there are additional underlying OpenOffice.org bugs.
Perhaps the other Intel users can clarify which sorts of sorting issues are which and point you to the relevant OOo issues (someone has filed the remaining sort problems with OOo, right?)

This is a serious problem for me. If fields in calc are alpha, or numeric, sorts work fine. If mixed, whether starting with numeric (ex. '110 Cooper Drive') or alpha (ex. 'recd 11 June') the sort result is COMPLETELY garbled. It's scary.
I am a membership secretary of a third age group with over 1200 members. Not to be able to sort is a real blow, but having made a good-sized contribution to the Oo project, I'm committed, but feel let down.
Surely there must be a huge number of Calc users who do a lot of sorting? We need to raise the profile of this issue - let's hear about it!

Please note that Neo itself does not affect sorting; we use the default sorting algorithms of OOo. Unfortunately, the current scope of the NeoOffice project is limited by resources to keeping a native version of OpenOffice.org running on Mac OS X and fixing OpenOffice.org feature bugs is outside that scope.

FWIW, OOo 2.1 did fix some of their bugs in this area. While NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3 uses the older (and buggier) OOo 2.0.3 code, the upcoming NeoOffice 2.1 release uses the OOo 2.1 code.
It seems that it works now.
In Neo 2.1 I tried to sort some mixed data, alpha and numeric, and I had no problem

I suppose that it's what you want.
Select the column, then
Tools > Data > Sort… and in the Options tab uncheck Range contains column labels.
