While testing NeoOffice's "export as PDF" code, I found that any characters that use the Apple Color Emoji font would not be included in the exported PDF file.
This bug was caused by OS X's special handling of the Apple Color Emoji font. Normally, when drawing or printing text, OS X draws font glyphs. However, when drawing the Apple Color Emoji font, OS X draws images instead of font glyphs.
I have fixed this bug by adding code that supports OS X's special handling of fonts like the Apple Color Emoji font. You do not have to wait until the next NeoOffice release to get this bug fix. You can get the bug fix by downloading and installing one of the following test patches:
