I am using OSX 10.3.9 and NeoOffice/J RC Patch 8.

I recevied today a sxw document by email, and was suprised to see that Apple mail displayed in inline, formatting and all.

How did it happen? Does NeoOffice add something to the OS to enabled this?

Just wondering...

Interesting... I dunno how but with a Mac it's good to see the old adage apply again,

"It just works!"

Actually, I don't think Neo/J is being used by Apple's mail tool. Since NeoOffice/J cannot run as a plug-in, there really is no way for Apple's mail tool to display a Neo/J window inline. So, I would guess that Apple has added some support for reading and displaying OpenOffice.org files.

hmm, that is interesting. i'll see if i can find a neo-less mac to test it on, as it would be good to know. (esp for people w/o neooffice)

What exactly have you done to your mac? Sounds like you have a miracle cure going on Smile.

My guess would be that the sender of the EMail included both the original .sxw document, and a PDF of it (perhaps accidentally), and it is the PDF seen inline. I don't really know - I'm not a Mail user.

Possibly related - Kevin Hendricks added a patch to OOo 1.1.x to allow OOo to automatically open enclosures sent in Mail (or vice-versa, or something) - see External Programs in Options.

Terry to the rescue! That sounds very plausible (although I must admit I rather liked Oscar's idea that Shoshannah's Mac had miraculous powers!)

This was to use Mail to send documents from OOo...Patrick extended the options to add Eudora and Entourage in Neo/J 1.1 Smile

I'll have to try that.

I also tried to send myself an .sxw file in Mail and it showed up as an attachment instead of embedded, although I'm still using ancient NOJ 0.7. I also couldn't drag and drop the .sxw into Mail.app but that makes sense since Pat didn't add that capability until recently to the RC 1.1 version, I think.

Right now I use something called On My Command to be able to right-click (or command-click for you purist die-hard original equipment 1-button Apple mouse loyalists) to be able to "Mail file" or somesiuch which opens a new email in Apple's Mail.app.

Ummm... do you see a PDF attached? I don't. Nither does Apple Mail.

And here is the document displayed inline, just after the sender's signature (which I blurred to keep his privecy):

I really doubt that this is a new feature Apple added- after all, I am using Panther, not Tiger.

That is why I asked.

Maybe it's inlined HTML?
Press Command-option-U (or V, I'm not sure for Panther) to see if it's the case Wink

Lacking an image of the actual mail, Terry's was the best-sounding solution at 3 AM Smile

Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree...perhaps Thunderbird is parsing the file and putting the contents inline as HTML (like val1984 suggested) when sending the email...?
