kinda random support question - i was using GIMP and wanted to use a font that is on my computer, but it wasn't availible in the list... is there a way to install all your fonts into X11? or are the ones that are there the only ones availible?

Hmm...well, Apple X11 does theoretically provide access to OS X fonts via xft, but we don't use that library for OpenOffice.org. I'm unsure if Gimp uses it either. OOo's kind of funky in that, well, it's got good German engineering that has its own font engine...in short, installing fonts for OOo is definitely different from other X11 apps
Anyone know a better way aside from relying on xft?
Should be able to drop TrueType fonts in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/ and have more than a few X11 apps see them. It depends on where the application tells freetype to look for fonts, and most use this path in addition to others.
